Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operation, preferably within public works or construction
- Hoisting Engineer License (2B minimum) issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and work in all weather conditions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Work includes frequent standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., operating equipment for extended periods, and working outdoors in varying environmental conditions

- This is a full-time, unionized position (40 hours per week) with opportunities for overtime, including snow and emergency response
- Salary and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
- The full pay range is $25.9324 – $34.5100 per hour, with annual step increases as outlined in the union contract

Responsibilities
- This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation of heavy and specialized equipment, as well as related manual tasks in support of highway, grounds, and infrastructure maintenance
- Operates heavy and specialized equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, street sweepers, and snow removal equipment
- Performs excavation, grading, road repair, drainage work, and related DPW maintenance tasks
- Conducts routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance; reports needed repairs
- Assists crews with manual labor duties, including paving, grounds work, catch basin cleaning, and sign installation
- Participates in seasonal operations including snow plowing, sanding, leaf collection, and storm-related emergency response
- Works collaboratively with the Foreman, General Foreman, and department staff; interacts professionally with residents and contractors
