Qualifications

•High School Diploma or equivalent

•Massachusetts Grade 2 I/M or higher Wastewater Operators License, required or actively pursuing

•Must have a minimum of 2 years in a municipal or industrial wastewater setting

•Must have a working knowledge of wastewater permits and the pretreatment processes

•Must be an advocate for safety, improvement, and change

•Must be able to work well in a team setting as well as alone

•Good record keeping and monitoring skills

•Metals precipitation experience is a bonus

•Must be able to move 55-gallon drums, lift and carry 50-pound bags of dry chemicals up or down 15 steps

•Must be able to remain standing 75% of the workday

•Pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting may be required

 

Responsibilities

•This position is responsible for the overall operability of the wastewater system in a safe and orderly manner, following all state and local guidelines

•This includes but is not limited to start-up and shut-down operations, analysis of wastewater samples, monitoring equipment performance, calibrating pH probes, working with acids, bases, and coagulants, observing and documenting (logging) flows, calibrations, equipment status, and problems that may occur

•The wastewater operator is required to perform general housekeeping, inventory control, and enter results into a computer

•He or she assists in the coordination of operations, operates pumps, presses, probes, etc

•and mitigates problems, as necessary

•The operator’s overall responsibility is to assist in ensuring the systems operational integrity is maintained and is operated within the MassDEP permit guidelines

•Responsible for assisting with the daily operations, logging of information, this includes system changes, chemical dose changes, set-point changes, maintenance of equipment, problems with equipment, etc

•Chemical usage, calibrations to pH probes, and water flow readings are documented and maintained separate from the daily logs

•The operator is responsible for Handling, labeling, storing, and processing hazardous materials for waste pickup

•Constant handling, gripping, grasping
